HOW-TO Connect your printer to your computer

Most printers come with USB cables that are meant to connect them to the computers.

The square shaped end (B-USB) goes into the printer device. find the port that matches and connect the cable to the device. (In most cases, the port will be sitting diagonally at the back of the printer - But not always.)

The other end of the cable (USB) is usually indicated by the USB-Symbol. Connect the cable to its matching port.

If your cable feels like it's not going in, don't force it. Turn it around so that it faces the right way and insert it into the port.

HOW-TO Identify lightning damage on a computer

One of the worst things for your computer is a fluctuation in the power source.

Computers are very intricate devices. The microchips and logic boards carry very accurate currents that will cause sizeable problems if overloaded. Electrical surges caused by power fluctuation and lightning can cause odd behaviors in your computer.

If your computer cannot start up at all, no lights are turning on and the computer is plugged into a working outlet,  your power supply may have been harmed by a lightning strike. The power supply is typically the computer’s first line of shielding against a fluctuation in power that a lightning strike produces. The power supply can handle minor power fluctuations, but the amount of power fluctuation that a lightning strike causes can do damage to the power supply. If your computer is not doing anything after you press the power button, it may have to be looked at by a computer technician. Especially after a lightning storm occurred.

HOW-TO Safely remove a USB from your computer

There was a time when computers might have not been able to write the data in your USB drive right away (because they were perfoming other tasks). If you removed the USB before the data had been written to it, it would cause data inconsistency in your USB drive. So  the "remove safely" option makes sure your USB drive is not being used to write data and can then be removed without corrupting any files.

Step 1 - Go to the right corner of he task bar, on the bottom of your screen.

Step 2 - Select the arrow facing upward to show your hidden icons.

Step 3 - A group of icons will appear above the icons that you have selected. Select the USB icon with the green arrow at the bottom.

Step 4 - Click on "Safely Remove Hardware Eject Media." wait for the indication that if is safe to remove the hardware, then you are good to go!
